A lesson learned

As the Rabbi of Plettenberg Bay I saw many people.

I became friendly with lots of people as well.

In life we always seek truth and the following story – whether I understood it correctly or not resonated a truth I am sharing with you.

One very wealthy active individual unfortunately lost his only son (he had another daughter.)

To lose a child is devastating, how much more so one out of two, and in a certain respect losing an only son for a man is very very soul destroying.

However I noticed his soul was not destroyed, he behaved in a manner which was completely engaged as any normal person.

Wondering how, I believed that he did whatever he could to save his son, sparing no effort, time or money and for that reason he felt no guilt – despite of course the void that must be there.

In life we are often presented with opportunities and if we do not grab them, if we do not follow our conscience to help those who need helping then we will feel guilt.
