We are as the Rebbe says fundamentally our mind – our opinions – if you delete a person’s opinions, as you can see God forbid in alzheimers, the person is not themselves

So you are, your thinking self – to the right of this is your desires – desires are not who we are, rather what we think is desirable – the proof is we can change our minds – to the left of this is our fears, phobias, anxiety – these certainly are not who we are, but have an extraordinary hold as they impregnate our mind with the sense of dread, forcing us to try to alleviate the fears – beneath us in the dungeon is the serpent – this is the ego – whenever our ego gets inflated and the serpent crawls from the basement into our minds (though it is subconscious, but is recognized by a sense of self, in other words, I become not a thinker, which is abstract, but obsessed with me) we then regress to the state of a toddler throwing-tantrums; for in this state we expect to get our way – which of-course is unrealistic (interestingly, we can be egoistical visa-vie one person and humble visa-vie another; so often a husband can develop ego visa-via a wife, or perhaps vise-versa and then the expectation is that “you should do what I want” hence there would be anger if you don’t) Additionally as the ego gets jealous of the good others have, it creates delusions of their evil, in order to be cruel and take or destroy their good – Ah’ but there is a remedy to the ego, for if you look outside your home through your skylight, you realize that you are not even a speck – a mere creation of an Infinite Being – this Being has total control of everything that ever was, is and will be! – and though we cannot understand his ways they ultimately lead to ever greater unity
