A Balanced Life According To The Principles Of Judaism and Mysticism

King Solomon writes, “For everything there is a time…”
So the key in life is to understand, WHEN!
- When we are born, it is the time for us to get love, so we shall love ourselves.
2. We also need discipline, so we learn to be able to be humble (love is a force of expansion; discipline, contraction.)
3. The main task of education as the Rebbe says, is that a child should ultimately learn to self-discipline.
4. We must teach children and ourselves the ability to delay gratification – to long term plan, and to have self-discipline – as the Fridikeh Rebbe says (In Cilalei Hadrachah Vihachinuch and as alluded by the Alter Rebbe) we accomplish this by ordering ourselves around – the more you order yourself, the more the horse begins to follow.
5. We obviously must teach Torah and Mitzvos, so we have direction! for the fastest car not knowing where to go, is worse than the slowest.
6. We must get married, have children; for the purpose of the world is first and foremost people.
7. We have six days a week in which we work – this also refers to creatively trying to do good – obviously men and women are unique – a man’s role is primarily in the outside, a woman’s primarily in the inside; a man is a conqueror, brings light to darkness; a woman is a nurturer, taking little flames and helping them shine.
8. We must give at least ten percent (when we can afford to) to charity – ideally twenty, and even more ideally everything.
Only through this – by understanding time and purpose, roles and universal goals; can we live in both internal and external peace, harmony, unity; forging a universe worthy of the name civilization.
