Understanding the unique time we are living in
The Messiah has come and the Messiah is coming!
The Messiah has come, is a clear statement of the Rebbe who knew more about the coming of the messiah than perhaps any other human being for all eternity.
The Messiah needs to urgently come is also a statement, sometimes made a paragraph later, by the same Rebbe who knew more about the coming of the messiah than perhaps any other human being for all eternity.
So what does this mean?
It took me years of research to figure this out but I checked it with an expert and other knowledgeable people in this field who confirmed what I have deduced to be correct.
Firstly what is the messiah?
In Kabbalistic terms which is the ultimate truth, for the Talmudic terms are obscure in metaphors and in parables that often are simply inaccurate without understanding the meaning of the metaphor – the Messiah is what is called the Yechidah Haklali which I simply refer to as G-d (the translation of it would be, the highest level of the G-dly soul from where everything emanates out of.)
In other words, G-d Himself is the Messiah however just as we call Kind David the Messiah and Moses etc. for the reason as the Ohr Hachaim Hakodesh states (one of the preeminent rabbinical sages who was an expert and wrote about Moshiach) that their souls will incarnate into the Moshiach and as the Rebbe states, the souls of all the previous Rebbes incarnate into the Rebbe of the generation, similarly its this soul that comes into the potential messiah (for as we know every generation has someone who studies the Torah like King David his ancestor, and rebuilds Judaism and fights the wars of God (as the Rebbe explains this does not mean physical wars, rather transforms the world though engaging with enemies to convince them as the Rebbe did with numerous countries such as Russia – as Senator Patrick Monyham said on the senate floor that the Rebbe was the single most important person to transform Russia, and many other countries including here in South Africa as Rabbi Bernard told me, that he was instructed to go to the Prime Minister and tell them to change the government from apartheid to democracy and they took immense trust in the Rebbe’s predictions that things would turn out o.k.) and then if God sends this individual to build the Holy Temple and regather the remnants of the Jewish people, we can be certain that he is the messiah in actuality) so too the “soul” of God entered into the Rebbe around the time when he said this statement as great Kabbalists such as Rabbi Kaduiri the Chief Kabbalists said, that the messiah was born.
Practically what difference does it make to me if the soul of God entered the Rebbe or not – I still do not see the holy temple, I still do not see the ingathering of the Jews – however a statement by one of the most important contemporary Chassidic teachers on the messiah explains this clearly.
He brings down a Midrash that states that G-d didn’t want to shock the Jewish people into the light of the messianic era, for it would be like taking a person from darkness to light which is blinding hence the miracles of the messianic era will gradually – like the sunrise – rise to the extent that before you will know it you will realize that the world you are in is actually the messianic dream.
- For the first time in Jewish history (spanning four thousand years) Jews are free to practice their religion everywhere in the globe
- For the first time in Jewish history since our two thousand year old exile Jews are safely and securely returning to Israel from countries that previously enslaved them
- For the first time in human history dictatorships are willingly (i.e. communism) giving way to democracies (South Africa is another good example.)
- For the first time in Jewish history Gentiles who were usually hell bent on anti-Semitism, are now hell bent on helping Jews to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars and far more lying in preparedness at any given moment to assist Jews and Israel (the fact that the Arabs are exceptions, this too was predicted that in the end of days the Arabs would be the last bastion of evil and they too will exceptionally soon, as they are, disintegrate.)
You too can be a Moshiach
The Baal Shem Tov teaches us that within each of us the soul of the Messiah resides.
The Rebbe often quoted the Meor Eynayim who believed – and if the Rebbe quoted him often he too believed or at least promoted this belief – that when we reveal the Messiah within, the Messiah without will come.
How do we reveal the messiah within?
I think I just understood and hence I am sharing it with you.
The Messiah is ultimately quite simply as the Rebbe says a messenger, a shaliach, an emissary, no different from all the great Rebbes and forefathers, Tzaddikim and great Jewish leaders of the past.
So how can I be them, you may be doubly perplexed now?
The point is that they were the absence of leadership, the absence of ego, the absence of grandeur, they were followers!
I once met an interesting savant who told me that a Roman general once said of his son “he will be a great leader as he is an excellent follower” this boy grew up to become a Roman emperor.
In other words, the true essence of our mission is not in healing the world, in producing a balm for wounded hearts, rather as I like to say, the essence of Judaism is searching for, living by and even be prepared to die for the truth.
The truth of course is God, and our highest abilities is to remove all vestiges of our egos, all vestiges of our brain, all vestiges of our instincts and allow God to be channeled through us which is what these great leaders did and in fact is probably far easier for you and I to do for they at least had incredible minds which must have been hard to cast off, listening exclusively to God but we (or at least me) have puny intellects that should quite simply be able to recognize that the creator of all that we see, all the science we can comprehend and the miracles we can’t, obviously is probably infinitely more accurate then we can ever hope to be.
The nature of man
God took a group of slaves, gave them a land flowing with milk and honey and then they rebelled.
Now if someone comes to you, hands you a credit card with unlimited purchasing power would you rebel against him or not?
Obviously not?
So why would the Jews rebel against God?
The reason is because its hidden.
So if something is obviously given to you by someone else you will remain indebted, however as God’s hand is always obscure it is in the nature of man to desire to feel like he is great.
Hence the terminology “it is our might and power that gave us the land.”
Fear like a vortex brings about double than quadruple etc. the fear; Love like a vortex brings about more and more and quadruple it unity.
There is probably nothing worse then trapped by fear, hence the need to constantly remind oneself of G-d’s individual love, protection, and ultimately direction he is taking you on.
