1. As we approach Matan Torah we must understand what is the right approach.
2. One of the hallmarks of Torah is the number 3
3. In simple words the idea of the Torah is to give man as he exists below the capacity knowledge and understanding how to sanctify himself and thereby his environment.
4.The reason the Torah is comprised of three, is because reality is comprised of three, for the healthy human being is comprised of 3 – namely, thoughts speech and action.
5. A healthy human being first thinks, then speaks, in other words if I come up with a plan, I speak to friends, and experts, trusted advisers to determine the viability, and then I put it into action.
6. Once a person – which is obviously thee entire reason for thinking of something – comes to action, then a person must reassess if the action is consistent with the original plan / intention.
7. These three levels correspond to Creation in general, as we know there ar’ three universes: the universe of Beriah, the universe of Yetzirah and the universe of Asiyah, when a man below rectifies his thought speech and action – which corresponds respectively to one of these universes, you rectify reality as a whole.
The purpose of creation is that man below through living in the world of action, and doing Torah and Mitzvahs, thereby elevating all universes.
Torah and Mitzvos themselves are a composite of three, for Torah is mainly speech, and Avodah / prayer is mainly thought / intention, and Mitzvos are actions – in general whenever we do a Mitzvah, though the main thing is the actual action, nevertheless for it to have spiritual lift, it should also contain intention, and we say a blessing, which is speech.
This is the great novelty of Torah, for it gives us the capacity to refine our universe.
This is also why the conclusion of the third book of the Torah, which is called the most serious book, as it has the most laws in it, as well as mainly the laws of Karbanois, and the Karbanois also incorporate the three of: intention, singing, and of-course of action.
As everything is made up of three, hence when below we use these three, we rectify and elevate above.
Before the Jews went into Israel, God told them about the law of Shemitah, of the resting of the land, so why wouldn’t they first work the land and then worry about resting it? Because before we go to work, we first must know the intention.
The intention of-course is to elevate the land, so when one goes in with the right intention, then the work is meaningful.
The same is true of our soul before it comes into this world, it takes a firm oath to be righteous, for all of our existence is about its purpose.
Similarly every morning, when we wake up, we make a firm resolution that today we shall serve God.
Our structure (thought, speech, action – vision, plan, execution) is also mirrored by God.
In the first instance, there is God, His vision, then the world subdivided in ten (the ten sayings, the Ten Commandments…) the reason for this is, for the will of God to manifest, an individual had to see a “divided” (separate from God in perception) world – then when an individual studies Torah and does Mitzvos, this fulfills the original Divine intent.
The soul descends below for a lesson of truth must be learned, and that is, the goal of life is not flight but landing, not to soar to God, but to bring God to reality.
True we must live a Godly life – but the main emphasis is on living – translating Godliness into life.
The Practical lesson is, we must increase in our study of Torah, doing Mitzvos, especially the study of Chassidus.
And most importantly with the help of God, this Lag B’omer we will be celebrating in the Holy Temple, The Beis Hamikdosh.
