Today I listened to a lecture from Rabbi Twerski who was a psychiatrist as well as a specialist in addiction, and he said that to be happy, we have to abandon the seeking of pleasure – rather happiness is in fulfilling the mission that our soul is sent into this world – and it made me realize, not only do we have to abandon that, but we have to despise it…! because ultimately the soul is like a car with gas driving – which is our desire – and when our desire is in any predilection, be it sexual, fame-orientated, and of-course even in the reverse. Fear or God forbid hate – then we simply don’t have the mental ability… because we’re so pushed into a certain direction
