Understanding Pretense

The only pretense to pretense is pretense

The question of course is why do people get into pretense?

The answer is shockingly simple.

Every person desires to be seen positively and not negatively.

When through abuse – usually caused by jealousy e.g. antisemitism and others – a person internalizes a negative self image, well then they create a pretense.

This pretense is not who they are, rather it is like a mask covering up who they are, as they believe who they are is disgraceful.
