Tonight I understood something of incredible profundity

You see we Jews don’t have the foggiest notion of who we are!

We are a light onto the nations!

All historians agree, that all of the goodness, “civilization,” the human rights, etc. etc. all came from the Jewish Bible carried in the breast of the Jewish people.

Now we could reasonably imagine that it is the book, not the people, who carried this message.

But even when the Romans had the Bible they did not change, rather they used it as a stick to kill, murder, non-believers with such barbarity to truly question if “thou shall not murder” was in their Bible.

In other words, as the famous saying “your actions speak so loudly, I can’t hear what you are saying,” it is not the Torah in the book, rather the Torah in the Jews behavior, that changed the world.

This is perhaps one of the reasons the Jews were sent into exile.

It also explains a truly perplexing statement of the Talmud:

The first two thousand years of the six thousand year cycle are creation, which is obvious for creation begins in year 0 (to the Jewish calendar.)

The next two thousand years are the years of Torah which is also obvious for that is when we find Abraham teaching or discovering a new way and the Torah is given and incubated in the Jewish hearts and behavior for the next two thousand years as the Jews reside and study in Israel.

And the last two thousand years are Moshiach.

Hold on! – the last two thousand years? when we were butchered, raped, pillaged, thrown from country to country with holocausts pogroms – that’s Moshiach?!

But if we understand Moshiach as the era in which the gentiles come to understand that murder is reprehensible, then actually it makes a lot of sense.

Yes, precisely due to our role modeling the ethics of God and precisely due to their murdering us and eventually realizing that their way is evil and our way is good, did they “convert” to the ethics which most of the western world holds dear today, the ethics given by God to the Jews.
