What is Moshiach?

We have been waiting for this day for thousands of years and ironically it is already here!

The Alter Rebbe who definitely knew what Moshiach is, once sighed saying “The Moshiach that everyone is waiting for is not coming and the Moshiach that is coming no one is waiting for.”

Moshiach is as the Rebbe teaches us, the unity of God and the Jewish people.

In the words of the Alter Rebbe

Chapter 37 Tanya

“This culminating fulfillment of the Messianic Era and of the Resurrection of the Dead, which is the revelation of the light of the blessed En Sof in this material world, depends on our actions and service throughout the duration of the galut…

Thus, when the totality of the vital soul of the community of Israel will be a holy merkavah for G-d, then shall the general vitality of this world, now constituting the kelipat nogah, emerge from its impurity and filth and ascend unto holiness to become a merkavah for G-d, through the revelation of His glory, “And all flesh shall see together,” and He will shine forth on them with the splendour of His majestic greatness, and the whole world will be filled with the glory of the Lord, and Israel shall behold [it] eye to eye, as at the Giving of the Law, as is written, “Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know, that the Lord, He is G-d; there is nothing else beside Him.’ In this way, all three unclean kelipot will be completely destroyed and annihilated, for their present nurture and vitality from holiness comes to them through the medium of the kelipat nogah, which is the intermediary between them.

It follows, therefore, that the whole fulfillment of the Messianic Era and of the Resurrection of the Dead— which is the revelation of His blessed glory and Divinity, and the banishment of the spirit of impurity from the world— is dependent on the suffusion of His Divinity and of the light of the blessed En Sof over the vital soul of the community of Israel in all its 248 organs, through its fulfillment of all the 248 positive precepts; and on the banishment of the spirit of impurity from it through its observance of all the 365 prohibitions, so that its 365 veins do not derive nurture from it.”

In other words there are basically two time frames within reality, the first is the time of Torah and Mitzvos when we infuse God with the very fabric of our universe – in the words of the Rebbe, we bring the shechinah (God’s indwelling) back to earth, which has already occurred in our generation.

Now one of the hard things to imagine is, can we really merit Moshiach? – We who are midgets relative to the giants of the past!

The answer of course is, that when a midget stands on the shoulders of a giant, he sees even further than the giant!

We often look at life as an all or nothing kind of thing!

If all the Jews kept the Mitzvos then all the Mitzvos would be kept.

The truth is that like a world filled with darkness it is only a matter of lighting up the world in which darkness fades and light emerges.

Similarly this world is dark, in fact, in the entire universe there is no darker more evil location than planet earth for in the higher worlds even though there is a perception of independence from God, a sense of self, nonetheless the wisdom that all comes from God, prevents desirous evil, on the other hand on earth where man can perceive himself to be an independent being, thus he is truly independent to fulfill the evil desires of evilness when such evilness AKA revenge manifests in his heart.

On the other hand, behind the outer appearance of this video game called earth, is another reality, and that is, that everything in this world can be one of three energies, God, neutral (a mixture of good and bad) and evil (which get its energy from demons who get their energy from Jewish people’s sins).

Now the Rebbe has told as that the time of Avodahs Habirurim, refining the evil into good, or at least the neutral world into God, has ended.

In other words he have already lit up – though not visible (but visible in a certain wavelength as you will soon see) the entire world.

This was accomplished by Jews going the world over and there using those languages and cultures in an ethical way, so even if a single non religious Jew ended up say in South Africa but the fact that they brought their ethical behavior to a land steeped in malevolence, they thereby changed or shall we say painted over the neutral or evil energy into a Godly energy for what gets imbued with God’s desire permanently gets altered into a Divine reality.

So if we had the Rebbes x-ray vision we could see as he says, a world ready for Moshiach, and in fact as I personally heard him say, based on all the prophecies etc. it is more unlikely for Moshiach to not come, than the sun to rise in the morning.

However we now need to understand the second stage, what does it mean “This culminating fulfillment of the Messianic Era and of the Resurrection of the Dead, which is the revelation of the light of the blessed En Sof in this material world.”?

What is this light we are talking about?

So the light is already here, but you and I don’t see it, but as the Alter Rebbe states “Thus, when the totality of the vital soul of the community of Israel will be a holy merkavah for G-d, then shall the general vitality of this world, now constituting the kelipat nogah, emerge from its impurity and filth and ascend unto holiness to become a merkavah for G-d, through the revelation of His glory, “And all flesh shall see together,” and He will shine forth on them with the splendour of His majestic greatness, and the whole world will be filled with the glory of the Lord, and Israel shall behold [it] eye to eye, as at the Giving of the Law, as is written, “Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know, that the Lord, He is G-d; there is nothing else beside Him.” In this way, all three unclean kelipot will be completely destroyed and annihilated, for their present nurture and vitality from holiness comes to them through the medium of the kelipat nogah, which is the intermediary between them.”

Again we find this reference to a light being revealed!

Elsewhere the Alter Rebbe writes how this light descends into the Jewish people and from them the entire world changes similar to what he says here.

So in my humble opinion it means as follows:

The quality of a Mitzvah that is the preparation for Moshiach, is that as it states in Tanya and Chassidus, it unites God within this world!

As the famous example that is given of a professor whose lofty mind thinks only say mathematical numbers yet being a diabetic needs a candy, so he asks a child for a candy and now a bond between different universes (the sublime mathematical and childish candies) has merged, through the fact that the candy child has fulfilled the desire of the mathematical professors needs.

Similarly, it matters little the distance between God and man, for when man fulfils God’s will (not what we think he wants, as many religions mistakenly delve into the mystical and emotional love and awe of God, rather what he clearly communicated on Mount Sinai to us through the Torah) then the infinite gap is infinitely merged and God enters into the physical and of course personal realm of the individual.

The only thing is we can’t see it.

Now let us analyze another question.

How can man see God as the Alter Rebbe writes “And all flesh shall see together,” and He will shine forth on them with the splendor of His majestic greatness, and the whole world will be filled with the glory of the Lord, and Israel shall behold [it] eye to eye, as at the Giving of the Law, as is written, “Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know, that the Lord, He is G-d; there is nothing else beside Him.”

Is God visible or invisible?

My uncle Levi Wineberg told me that the ancient Romans called the Jews atheists for they believed in an invisible God.

What is this visible wavelength of God?

If he can be visible doesn’t that bind him into physical limitations?

If he is bound in physical limitations, he isn’t the invisible unlimited God that we know.

The answer is that God is both.

In other words, a truly unlimited God can also become a limited visible God.

But what does it means that “as at the Giving of the Law, as is written, “Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know, that the Lord, He is G-d; there is nothing else beside Him.””

In other words, this revelation happened already as the Alter Rebbe writes about in chapter 33.

So if the invisible God became visible you might imagine what we say his limits, but then again it states that “there is nothing else beside Him.”

Somehow his visibility doesn’t contradict his invisibility, in other words if God were visible you would see how “there is nothing else beside Him.”

So the answer is very very very hard to understand for we haven’t seen it, but what it must mean is that God can both remain visible and invisible at the same time.

And I think it simply and succinctly is understood by differentiating between what we see and what is reality.

We often think that what we see is reality.

But of course science teaches us that what we see is really a concealed energy, e-energy = matter, so we see matter but it is really energy.

In other words, there is a single indivisible God (who really has nothing to do with the physical properties of light) that can manifest people who do have the ability to see the physical protons and wavelengths of light with their various nano-meter wavelength and that God can then crate a new wavelength which will demonstrate that everything else that we see is dependent on the higher wavelength.

In conclusion God is of course who we always thought him to be, singular, special, invisible however and this is the point God MANIFESTS HIMSELF IN ANY WAY HE WANTS.
